What is Private label?
Selling a manufacturer's product under your own brand, usually an existing design with your logo, labels and packaging rather than a new product.
Private label usually starts from a factory's existing product, often an ODM design. The buyer adds its brand through logos, labels, packaging and inserts, and sometimes small changes in color or material. It is a fast way to build a branded range without developing products from scratch.
Because the base product is not unique, competition comes down to brand, consistent quality and price. The factory may sell the same item to others, so your registered trademark and your quality standards are what protect the brand.
Register your trademark in China before sharing branded artwork with factories, approve a golden sample with your branding, and make sure labels meet US requirements, such as country of origin marking and any product-specific labeling.
