What is CE (CE marking)?
The mark a manufacturer puts on products covered by EU safety laws to declare they meet those rules, needed to sell them in the European Economic Area.
CE marking applies only to product groups covered by EU harmonization legislation, such as machinery, electrical equipment, toys, construction products and personal protective equipment. For most, the manufacturer assesses conformity, keeps a technical file, signs an EU declaration of conformity and affixes the mark; some higher-risk products need a notified body.
A CE mark is a declaration, not proof of independent testing. Ask for the declaration of conformity and test reports, and check they name the right product and standards. Products outside CE scope, such as most furniture, should not carry the mark at all.
CE is not accepted in place of US requirements: electrical equipment for the US generally needs a listing by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory instead. For shipments to France and Germany, Beato works with local customs agents and delivery partners.
