What is CLS (Container loading supervision)?

An inspector's check while a container is loaded at the factory or warehouse, confirming the right goods, quantity, packing and loading method.

During container loading supervision, an inspector checks the empty container's condition (holes, damp, odor, damage), counts the cartons, checks a sample of them against the order and watches how the goods are stacked and secured. The inspector records the container and seal numbers and photographs each stage until the doors are sealed.

It catches problems that inspecting finished goods cannot: short shipments, mixed-up products, poor stowage that causes damage in transit, and goods swapped after the pre-shipment inspection.

CLS is worth it for high-value or fragile loads and for consolidated containers with goods from several suppliers. Careful loading also uses the space better, which lowers freight cost per unit.
